Why You Should Always Use Your Real Name On The Internet
First of all, quit thinking about all the negative things you hear about all the weirdos online. Yes, they are out there and you should take certain precautions about things you share but using your own name shouldn't be one of them.

There could be strange people shopping at the grocery store too but you're not going to tell them how to find you at home, right?
Common sense would tell you to limit the amount of information you share if you think something negative could happen.
When it comes to building your business and creating a name for yourself, it's important to use your real name. Nowadays people will search for you on Google and if you are Googleless, how much credibility do you have? Absolutely none.
In order to be recognized as a leader in your field, it's critical that you brand your name everywhere online. Be the one who establishes yourself as the expert and leave a trail of links and profiles everywhere with your name.
I usually see people that create a pseudonym or fictitious name as hiding behind something and not going full out with validating themselves as a real person.
I once did the same thing on MySpace because I wasn't sure how safe it was to put my name out in this public community online. I had heard stories of all the strange things that happened to people but of course, the numbers are extremely low and the chances of something really bad happening are one in a million. I decided to go incognito and use a fake name, in fact my name was Rachael Green, the character stage name that Jennifer Aniston played on friends!
The problem was I felt like I was misleading people that wanted to get to know me and I didn't feel authentic. I used to tell people to look for me under Rachael Green and everyone would laugh. I guess I had to experience the community first before I felt comfortable exposing my real name.
One suggestion is to use the name of your company or create a personal branding strategy that will still connect you to your audience without fully exposing yourself if you want to create buffer between you and the internet world. Although now, I'm glad I made the decision to use my own name because if I don't, who will?
