Many solo professionals are using newsletters as part of their marketing strategy, so yours needs to stand out from the crowd. How do you accomplish that? Below are 7 keys to making sure your e-zine has the right impact:

1.Layout
is an important feature. Compare the e-zines your currently receive and note which ones attract you to continue reading. Chances are the layout is simple and clean, with balanced white space, graphics, and easy-to-read fonts.

2.Valuable content
must be included, or your risk losing credibility. Consider featuring an article you've recently written. If you aren't a writer, search article banks for relevant material. These articles can typically be used free of charge if you include a credit to the original writer.

3.Promote one offering
you want your audience to know about. Your audience expects to learn about your offerings. Select one and showcase it, usually after the featured article or other content you've provided.

4.Showcase your professional development
to demonstrate how you are staying current and improving your skills. Like promoting an offering, your subscribers and clients want to know that you are investing in yourself, because that ultimately benefits them.

5.Allow the reader to forward your e-zine to others
by including a link to a page where they enter the names and email addresses of colleagues. Their colleagues can then decide if they like your e-zine and opt-in to receive it regularly.

6.Link to your opt-in page
so that non-subscribers can easily join your list. The forwarding tip works best when you have a live link to your site or opt-in page. Make sure the link opens in a new window so the reader can easily return once they've opted-in.

7.A communication strategy
must be in place. Have you ever opted-in for a weekly e-zine that was then delivered sporadically? Decide on a frequency that allows you to deliver, then use an auto-responder to create a schedule and remain consistent. This allows you to easily create optimum impact and credibility.
