Small Business Is Not Rocket Science - Simplify!

We all tend to become overwhelmed by the complex nature of any undertaking. Starting up a small business is a complex undertaking.

By: Mark Bergman
Generally the entire business is started by a single individual or perhaps a few individuals. Anyone will tell you that running a small business is no less complicated than any much larger corporation. The difference is scale and that's it! There are still the same tasks like accounting, inventory control, purchasing, payables, receivables, customer interaction and so on.

Starting and running a small business can be easily tackled and conquered with the right approach. It is not nearly as complicated as rocket science. So what does this mean to you as the small business owner?

Simply this. Break down all the complex tasks and problems that face your small business into smaller and less complicated pieces. Now take on each small challenge individually, instead of being overwhelmed by the bigger picture.

Simplification is the key. It is easier to perform many simple tasks than to perform a few or even one very complex one. This is particularly true if you have people working for you in your business. If the tasks are easily understandable by all, then this makes delegation of tasks that much easier too. Also imagine that you, the business owner is unable to work on a particular day through illness or whatever reason and you have to hand over the running of the business  to another person, then having simple processes will keep the business running even in your absence. This will make your life in general a lot less stressful.

You will have to take a long hard look at each functional area within your business to be able to identify where and how to reduce complex tasks into more manageable ones. So through the simplification process you will also gain an added benefit. Now you will have an even clearer picture of what your business is all about and potential improvements are more easy to identify and therefore to implement.

Simplify your business processes and your chances of successfully building up your business will increase dramatically.
