Reflection Networking

Most sales professionals will understand what this means but for those of you who don't, let me explain. You see when you go through training to become a better salesperson they always tell you to mirror the person you are doing a presentation to. If they are Type A individuals, then mirror that back. Although, that could be a little dangerous!

You should also present yourself in the same manner as your prospect. If they are wearing blue jeans, then darn it, you should too! If they are humorous, you should laugh at all their jokes. Better yet, get them laughing with you!

Think of looking in the mirror and duplicating what you see.

I've always had a talent of meeting people at whatever level they are at. If I had a meeting with a CEO, I spoke only the facts and appeared very professional. I cut to the chase and bottom lined everything for them to come to a quick decision.

However, if I was meeting with someone that was a stay at home mom, I shared my stories of how I raised my kids. The troubles of maintaining the household and all the hats we wear.

In Reflection Networking, you should try relate to the other person no matter who they are. You can always find a common ground and go from there. However, you need to resemble not only their appearance in how you dress but also in how you carry yourself.

I'm not saying you have to lose your identity, absolutely not. I want you to stand out in a crowd to be seen, not to blend in. I'm really referring to seeing people for who they are without appearing better or worse than they are. Be their equal, nothing else.

This takes a little practice but I assure you, it's a talent worth developing. You have to be a little bit of a chameleon in order to mirror the people you meet at networking events. Always ask what the attire is so you don't feel out of place or make others feel uncomfortable about their own appearance.

What it will allow you to do is appear as though you get along with anyone and fit into any situation.
