Networking Is Like Dating All Over Again
I want you to think back to the days when you were single and started dating. Yes, I tend to relate networking to dating sometimes but bare with me for a minute.

When you were single, you put out your feelers and went searching for a mate. You had some people you were automatically attracted to and others you knew instantly wouldn't work.
I got so good at screening men that I knew within the first few minutes if we would get along or not. I spent a lot of time thinking about my ideal mate and listed all the qualities I wanted and also knew the things I didn't want.
When it comes to networking, you are actually doing very similar things because you are looking for just the right target audience that is attracted to what you offer.
When you think about dating and courting someone, you used your creative imagination to impress them. You went out of your way to look your best, to be polite, to arrive on time, to talk about things of mutual interest and make a great impression.
Don't you do the same thing when you want to get someone's business?
You should be fully prepared to make a great introduction, schedule time together, show up on time and see things through to completion. It's the only way to establish trust which is also extremely important when you were dating, right?
No one ever gets married to someone after only the first date so don't expect someone to buy something from you after only meeting you at the first networking event either.
The relationship whether in finding love or finding business is built on the same principles. They both require time, energy and effort in order to grow into a more committed relationship.
