Hey, Can You Hear Me Now?
Good. I don't have to say much to get you thinking of what company uses this phrase. Networking works the same way.
By: Darlene Willman
It's about getting the word out about your business through word-of-mouth. I always laugh when I hear this commercial because it applies to having your own network of people listening and supporting you.
Having a large network of people surrounding you all the time gives you the ability to accomplish almost anything. Whenever I need or want something, I turn to the people I know. They might not have the answer for me, but they usually recommend someone else that does.
Next time you attend a networking function, I want you to visualize the person sitting next to you with all the people they know in their network. Even though you're talking with one person, you are actually speaking to hundreds, if not thousands of people as well.
Prepare your marketing message clearly so that other people can help support you. Avoid asking for more than one thing at a time so it makes it easier to remember. On numerous occasions, I have heard people share several businesses or several products only to send a confusing message. Tell everyone you meet specifically what you need next whether it's an introduction, a referral or a resource. The more people you tell, the more likely you are to receive it.
Beyond the one on one introduction, find a way to stay connected to your audience. Develop a newsletter, send emails, letters, a greeting card or simply pick up the phone and call them. Invite them to attend other networking functions with you or take them to lunch to get to know them better.
Networking is the easiest, most affordable way to market your business. Spend time learning how to become the best networker possible. Share your ideas, connections, referrals and business with everyone you meet. Position yourself as the one everyone turns to for answers. Even if you don't know how to help them personally, you can always refer them to someone else or better yet, go out of your way to find it for them!
I am always so impressed with people that send countless referrals and recommendations. I'm sure you've met these individuals that stay in touch with you and always ask how they can help support you. Ever notice it's much easier to promote someone else than it is yourself? Before you know it, you'll have a sphere of influence that naturally refers business to each other. These people work with the same audience you do but don't compete with each other for the business.
Once you have a small group developed, think about getting together once a month for a strategy session or mastermind with each other. Collaborate on a project and expand your business with all the resources collectively from your group. To make it more official, give yourselves a name for your group and do whatever you can to strengthen and grow with each other.
There's strength in numbers. Create an alliance and discover how powerful your network really is. No matter what happens in the future, if you have the support from your network, anything is possible.
