Think about it, you're at a chamber of commerce meeting and the speaker is talking about a new development project that will be coming into your city and how that will impact economic growth. Maybe there is a representative that is talking about the highway conditions and how business will be affected because of construction.

Many times you'll hear from other people you network with about fundraisers and other current events. The bigger the news, the more conversations that will take place at networking events an d the more you know.

You even hear about new companies opening or businesses closing. You'll hear about the right person to go to in a company and why. If you are a resource for others, you tend to be notified of almost all local happenings.

Networkers tend to be the ones that spread the word about what's going on. They know more about their community than most people. Maybe it's because they listen more to what is out there and want to provide valuable information to others.

On occasion, you'll even hear about job openings and who's hiring. In fact, you might even have companies ask you if you know anyone in your network that can help them with projects.

When you network often, you become a point of contact for all sorts of information. They can even tell you who might be celebrating a birthday or having a baby.

I believe networkers need to be "in the know" most of the time otherwise they miss certain opportunities. After all, networking has a lot to do with being at the right place at the right time to meet just the right people!
