How To Increase Employee Effectiveness

Every employee is vital (or should be) to organizational success. Accordingly, each member of the organization must dedicate themselves to creating and supporting a work environment based on personal responsibility and continuously increasing individual as well as collective intellectual capital.

By: Roger Ingbretsen
Individual responsibility and collective potential of the organization can be realized to the greatest degree possible when “each employee can answer yes!” to the following questions.

Do I know my strengths?
Am I dedicated to being the best fit for this position?
Do I possess or am I working toward the knowledge and skills required for this job?
Am I committed to my own personal growth?
Am I committed to increasing my own knowledge and intellectual capital?
Am I committed to the growth of others?
Do I view my co-workers as true partners?
Do I focus on the greater good, rather than supporting hidden agendas?
Am I dedicated to creating and supporting an environment of trust, respect, openness, honesty and demonstrate a willingness to help others?
Am I committed to knowledge sharing with others so that we all grow?
Am I truly passionate and excited about the work I do for my customer?
Do I live and support a balance between work and home life?

The effectiveness of any organization is directly related to the effectiveness of each member. As any organization moves to improve itself, it takes the high impact efforts of “every member” of the team to make the vision become reality. I’m sure you know this, but do you enforce it.

To that end, the organization must be committed to developing and sustaining a culture that promotes the growth of all stakeholders in a “risk free” innovative environment. To do this, the organization must continually build the “intellectual capital” of every employee.

In the 21st Century, the effective application of information and knowledge are the primary raw materials needed to create wealth and efficiencies for both the producer and the consumer. In successful organizations, intellectual capital is recognized to be the sum of everything everyone knows that provides the organization the competitive edge and allows it to best serve the customer. This statement implies several things.

First, continuous attention must be applied to ensuring that an innovative environment is supported where individual and collective potential can be realized.

Second, each employee must take the personal responsibility to know their strengths and competencies, and be committed to their own personal growth as well as the growth of their colleagues.
