How To Create A Marketing Buzz
Less than 30 minutes after announcing the launch of our membership service, our web host servers were temporarily shut down. Apparently having over 17,000 simultaneous visitors to our site will do that and our friends helped in the cause.

While having our friends put up a status feed on Facebook is working it was not the sole reason the site was shut down. People ask me all the time how we've managed to get such high traffic numbers in such a short time frame. They are curious to know how we had 4,000 visitors in our first month, after they point out that they didn't have anywhere near that many their entire first year. Soon after that they want to know my marketing secrets, unfortunately there is none but I'll give you a little insight as to how we approach creating a buzz.
First and foremost you must be willing to stick to a plan no matter how repetitive it may be. Facts show that most times it takes a consumer seeing your product or services at least 7 to 9 times before they are even interested in finding out more about it. Statistics also show that passing out flyers usually only returns about a 15% response rate and that drops significantly as the days pass.
You must change your way of thinking. Rome wasn't built in a day an every marketing campaign will not yield isn't results. Some things take time and what worked the first time may not work as well or at all the next, which brings me to my final point. This may also mean that you have to change your personality to improve your business. I've found that there is no room to be shy in the business world. You don't have to be conceited either but people can't buy what they don't know is there and you have to be willing to be the face of your company if necessary. I had to make this transition myself!
You must be unique, creative, bold and fearless. Stand behind what you're doing and be proud of it. Consider this. If you saw a black and white picture and somewhere in the corner was a bright red apple, no matter the size the first thing your eyes will be attracted to is that bright red apple! Make your business that bright red apple and don't be afraid to try something different. Not everyone may agree with your tactics but they will remember those that stand out better than those that only fit into the crowd.
Simply put, I do a lot of research on my target audience before I even consider what to do for a marketing campaign. I spent nearly two months just bouncing ideas off Matt of things we could do. I literally break my marketing campaigns down to a science. I study my target audience's behavior, spending habits, needs and wants then focus my efforts on the results I find. I've found the most efficient method is to try something on a small scale and then move it up to a bigger scale if it works. The only secret that I had is that I actually enjoy finding creative ways to grab people's attention and make them remember something. It has taken me years and I still have much to learn but the only way to get better at something is to practice!
